Read-A-Thon 2024!

All information on the 2024 Read A Thon can be found in the PDF here.

This year, the PTC at Excelsior Elementary School, will be holding its 9th Annual Read-A-Thon. Every time you read you can raise money that will be used for the benefit of all students at Excelsior. We are excited to announce that our theme this year is “EXCELSIOR EAGLES EXPLORE OUTDOORS“.

READ

The purpose of the Read-A-Thon is to encourage reading, build literacy, and to raise funds for Excelsior enrichment programs. (Art docent, school assemblies and class field trips.)  Monies raised also fund art supplies, classroom supplies, recess and physical education equipment, school spirit activities, student planners, teacher and staff appreciation, celebrations throughout the year, and student rewards.

By Signing the pledge to read (at least) 30-minutes a day and you can help the school achieve our school wide goal of 210,000 minutes and earn ONE raffle ticket. You will also see your name printed on a paw print in the cafeteria!

You are welcome to read any book you would like over the course of the Read-A-Thon. But if you are stuck for ideas, we provide plenty of recommendations that are brimming with adventure, while also instilling a love and respect for the great outdoors. Some will even explore the unbreakable bond between humans and animals forged in some very challenging circumstances.

COLLECT

Our school fundraising goal is $40,000 with the goal for each student to raise $150.

Ask your friends, family, the unsuspecting neighbor(?), to donate money for your commitment to read as much as possible during the next 2 weeks.  Share your personal reading goal in addition to your donation link.

Each Excelsior Elementary student will receive a private link to a personal website that they can share with friends and family for the purpose of collecting donations. Parents/guardians should have received this link via email by September 13th. Need help locating it? Email: exptc@eurekausd.org.

Donors can also search for students on the website: https://app.99pledges.com/fund/exptc to donate online (preferred). Or, submit cash and check donations to the Excelsior office as soon as you receive them. Please submit in an envelope labeled with the student name, grade and teacher.

WRITE A REVIEW

New this year, you have the option to be entered into the “special” Prize Wheel spin on 9/27 by submitting a book review! Did you love or loathe a book you just read? Share that information with your peers in the form of a star rating and a brief summary as to what you liked and what you didn’t. (The summary must be at least one paragraph and actually contain well thought out content to count. You are in 4th, 5th, and 6th grade now!) These reviews will be published to help the rest of us decide which books we want to read!

PLAY BINGO

Also new this year, you can earn a small prize for completing Book Bingo and turning it in at lunchtime during the Prize Wheel days! Print out a Bingo! card here, or pick one up in the office and then record your activity until you score a Bingo! No cheating! Hand in the completed card to the office and I will personally add TWO addition raffle tickets with your name on them. Do this as many times as you would like!

AND OF COURSE…

Without prizes there is no real motivation, right? Well what could be better than free food and extra recess. So go read something!
